Emergency

Get everyone out and call from outside

Leave the building immediately and take everyone with you. Do not turn lights or switches on or off, and do not use a phone inside. Do not light anything or use doorbells. Once outside, call the emergency services or the gas emergency line. Wait for the all-clear before going back in.

Caution

Suspected appliance leak

If it is safe, turn the appliance off and open doors and windows. Do not use the appliance again. Call the gas provider or a registered engineer to inspect it. If the smell grows, evacuate and call the emergency services.

Caution

Locate the source before doing anything else

Open windows and doors and keep flames and sparks away. If you have a gas meter, you may be able to turn the supply off at the meter if you know how. Call the gas provider for an inspection. If the smell gets stronger or you feel unwell, evacuate and call the emergency services.
